READER'S VIEW: Australia Post a waste of time and money
http://www.themorningbulletin.com.au/news/readers-view-our-postal-service-winsthe-woftam-awa/3049530/
AUSTRALIA Post should be given the WOFTAM Award, which translates to 'Waste Of Flipping Time and Money' - although sometimes flipping is substituted for another word.
On June 1, I deposited a birthday cheque from my brother in Brisbane into Visa but the silly duffer forgot to top up that particular account and the cheque bounced.
I knew about this a day later when he phoned to tell me, but on June 14 I received a letter dated June 2 from Westpac in Sydney advising me to get in touch with the cheque's sender.
It took 12 days for a letter to come from Sydney to Rocky. This is normal now.
This is how long anything is going to take, because on June 13 I bought a small flat lightweight item on eBay which is still coming from Kiama, 79km south of Wollongong.
Estimated date for delivery shows up as between 27-29 June 27-29. That is 14-16 days to get here.
Isn't our postal service doing well? Install someone at the top with a multi-million dollar salary and a name no-one can pronounce and watch the whole thing go flying downhill like a car with no hand brake.

Last year a family member posted a bundle of cards at the same time, with three intended for our address. One arrived after a week, the second around a week after that, and the third not at all. Any wonder people are moving away from snail mail services.

"Install someone at the top with a multi-million dollar salary and a name no-one can pronounce and watch the whole thing go flying downhill like a car with no hand brake."
Does that mean that if the head of Australia Post had a good old Anglo Saxon name everything would be OK?
Fahour isn't hard to pronounce anyway.

Yeah - I posted a Xmas parcel and card to the USA - - and our wonderful postal service LOST IT! Took me 3 months of screaming at them weekly before any action, and another 4 weeks for it to be returned to me from their damaged goods office. I will NOT use them for USA again! Wish there was a local alternative as well . . .

OH for a start Wollongong to Kiama is round 42 kms, not 79, but I guess the way the mail runs you could say it is 79 kms, and the mmail, well, another 50 years I feel it will be gone altogether.

Oh for Aust Post we received a letter from Medicare about child dental program and posted was posted from Canberra on 21st May and arrived at our home yesterday 21st June exactly 1 month after being posted priority paid by Medicare. I spoke to the postman who delivered it and he said this a common thing to happen as it whether you pay priority delivery or not mail is not being delivered within the recommended time frames as set down by Aust Post. Please remember it is not the actual postie that is to blame but the major sorting centers and Aust Post hierarchy. I feel for the abuse the posties who are being abused for the length of time mail is taking to get from point A to to your home or mail box.

Mail I was to get form Centrelink took 6 days to get to me. I could have gotten it quicker by getting the needed forms from Centrelink. I was told over the phone they may give me the wrong ones! A letter once took 4 days to get to Mackay from Miriam Vale. I now send my cards really early so I know they will get there in time! I was also told that normal sent post gets checked the next day, it if has extra postage on it, it gets check the same day to be sent. We pay more for our postage to get it there slower...

I was sent a beautiful calendar by my cousin in England, when it arrived it was a soggy mess, On making enquiries it seems the packages had been left outside at the mail sorting centre in Brisbane and everything got wet. It took some complaints and a lot of trouble but they compensated me about $1.00 for this loss. Takes 3 days for a letter posted in Hervey Bay to be received back in Hervey Bay. Used to have an overnight service to Brisbane, could nearly walk that distance now for the length of time for it to get there. This is what happens when the Government sells things off.

I only send the grandkids letters, cards etc., which requires the now $ 1 stamp. I used to send them presents too, but now i refuse to pay the ridiculous costs today, of sending packages in the mail. I either give the pressies to relatives who are visiting them, or i'll put the money in my kids bank accounts, to give to the little munchkins. I'd rather save the $ 10 or more, postage charges, and give them that little extra, to tack onto their present. Their parents take them shopping, to choose something that they like, to around that value.

Last year it took 9 weeks for a small parcel to get from NSW to Qld. Thanks for nothing Australia post. You are squeezing us dry.
I notice the head is not suffering.
You need to drop the word Australia because you certaunly donot represent or work for Australians and have not done for a long time. You are hiding behind what once was an honourable name.
You are hitting ys left right and centre.
Pure greed. Pure self interest and NO RESPECT for Australians. What a farce.
