By Rachel Eddie For Daily Mail Australia

A lazy postman has been caught on CCTV leaving behind a slip for a missed parcel delivery without even knocking, two days in a row.

Julie Salama, a mother-of-three, runs her cake business from her Merrylands home in Sydney's west, and was eagerly awaiting a parcel on Monday she’d paid express delivery for.

Without the parcel, she could not finish a customer's order.

But after spending the morning with one ear to the door for her parcel, she realised the postman had left a slip saying she’d missed the delivery.

'Sorry we missed you,' the slip reads.

Instead, she would need to pick up the parcel in the later afrernoon, which meant putting her customer’s order on hold.

Infuriated, and certain the postie had never knocked, Ms Salama reviewed her CCTV footage which confirmed her suspicions.

It showed him running to the door and back with just the slip in hand, with no sign of the parcel and wasting no time to knock.

Ms Salama was then forced to bring her three tired, hungry and ‘cheeky’ children, all aged under eight, to the Merrylands Post Office after picking them up from school.

All four of them then had to wait in a slow moving queue for 40 minutes, ‘because someone couldn’t do their job properly and just ring the doorbell’, Ms Salama said.

‘You’ve seen the post office lately,’ she beckoned. ‘The line is to the front door every time, there is always 20 or 30 people waiting.

‘It’s a bit of a joke.’

Not only had she paid extra for the delivery to be posted express, but Ms Salama now had to pay for parking at the post office to retrieve it.

Awaiting a further parcel for her business, the same thing happened all over again on Tuesday.

She received a text message from Australia Post informing her she'd missed the delivery.

'Don't you dare,' she thought, Ms Salama told Daily Mail Australia.

‘This time he didn’t even make it to the front door,’ she said, with CCTV showing him jump from his van to drop the slip in the mailbox.

She said it appeared to be the same post man.

‘It’s not just me that it’s happening to,’ Ms Salama said. ‘It’s happening a lot and it’s a little bit too frequent.’

Ms Salama said she rang Star Track - which Australia Post contracts their courier parcels to - to complain, but they referred her back to Australia Post.

The businesswoman, who runs Razzle Dazzle Cakes, said the woman she'd spoken with had been helpful.

'She'll report it to the manager,' she said.

Ms Salama understood that the period leading up to Christmas must be busy for the postmen, but that they were putting too many people out.

'It's putting me back, and then it's putting my customers out,' she said.

In a statement provided to Daily Mail Australia, Australia Post apologised, and said:

'We are extremely disappointed in the actions of this driver and will be following-up with him directly.

'As an organisation we take great pride in the safe and timely delivery of parcels. In this case the driver has not followed policy, which is to knock and call out to see if anyone is home before leaving a card.

The vast majority of our drivers are doing the right thing but where this is not happening we will look into it. If customers have any concerns about their mail delivery, we recommend they call the Australia Post Customer Contact Centre on 13 13 18.'

In one case, a postie said he would have to dismount his bike to reach the door so never carries the item and just drops the card. Who has their front door an arm's length from the footpath?

Eni, SA, Australia, 10 months ago
I have had this happen many times, iv been home, front door open waiting for delivery only later to find a card in the letter box saying I missed a delivery. Love paying a fortune in delivery fees to have to go pick it up myself.

KAMAD, Perth, Australia, 10 months ago
At least he went to her door. I heard someone pulling up and as I was expecting a parcel I walked to the front door of my house only to see him driving in to my driveway. As I went through the door he reached out his window to my letter box, popped in the card and start to drive off. Both of our cars were there, front door was open, and as he drove off he looked at me on the porch with my mouth open and kept going. Unbelievable!!!! I complained but nothing came of it and their delivery standards remain abysmal. Mind you it is true that Australia Post pay rates are appalling and they can be horrible to work for!!!!

Danielle Leblanc, Perth, Australia, 10 months ago
This isn't just about signed-for parcels. I had this happen last week. I had stated in the delivery info that it was ok to leave it on the front verandah. They didn't bother. The contractors are charging AP for services they don't pride, it seems to me

Danielle Leblanc, Perth, Australia, 10 months ago
Been there. So lazy!

vorelli987, sydney, Australia, 10 months ago
To the people replying and to the lady in this story. This used to happen to me until i emailed AP saying that I will invoice them $30 for each time a Postie doesn't ring my doorbell. I explained I am invoicing them because they are failing to provide their service and it takes me 1 hour to pick it up and wait in the line therefore i will charge then 1 hour of my time ($30) for each time this happens. Magically, The problem sorted itself once i notified AP that i will be charging them for my time wasted in them failing to provide their service.

Not just the post in the UK that is useless then??

Emma_star, By the bay, Australia, 10 months ago
I was waiting for a package one day from AP - heard the van so went out to the driveway and saw the delivery driver drop a card in my letterbox. I ran over and said I'm here, can I have my package and he basically laughed at me and told me he doesn't carry all the packages in his van (!), they're back at the post office. Nobody's usually at home, he says. I was gobsmacked for a minute and he turned around and drove off. They also failed to deliver my car rego last year and I had to pay a fine to Dept of Transport. Australia Post are terrible these days, I have low expectations of them now and am pleasantly surprised when they actually deliver anything.

Unfortunately this has happened to me a few times.Australia Post always come back with the excuse saying that its an external company delivering the goods. Not good enough Australia Post!

Say what, Senseville, Australia, 10 months ago
I confronted Australia Post sbout this and the items are in a local holding address and not even in the truck.

ThinkABitHarder, Sydney, Australia, 10 months ago
It's happened to me regularly too. Even when I've been looking out the window waiting for the postie to arrive with an expected parcel, I go to the mailbox to find the card saying sorry, couldn't deliver, you were out. Have reported it to Aussie Post a couple of times, now resigned to the fact they don't give a toss.

Francis Johanesson, Melborune., Australia, 10 months ago
Lock him up.

Sydneymary, Sydney, 10 months ago
This has happened to me numerous times, now the postie has taken to dumping parcels on our porch or driveway without even knocking. When I did complain, we just received a card in our letterbox every time for months afterwards, it strikes me this is far from the isolated incident Australia Post makes it out to be. I just don't expect to receive parcels delivered to me personally from them anymore.

Blue lagoon, Melbourne, Australia, 10 months ago
This happens to me on a daily basis, worst are the courier companies who's bases are miles and miles away which you have to drive out to after they "attempt " to deliver.

I reck0n, On a Island, New Zealand, 10 months ago
I still can't get over the fact, he went empty handed to the door !! Makes no sense ... What an inconvenience to the home owner ...

Inkylegs, Adelaide, Australia, 10 months ago
This happened all the time and when your parcel is late that you paid for do they give you a discount on that courier pack no way

This happens all the time..has happened to me I've complained...nothing is ever done

Typical Australia Post. Happens nearly every time to me even when I am at home. All postmen should be monitored and penalised for this.

WenJ12, The Great Southern, Australia, 10 months ago
Australia Post don't need to provide bad service...their business is suffering financially, they need to be on top of their game in every way.

null, 10 months ago
Nothing new.

The view from here, Sunshine Coast, Australia, 10 months ago
This has happened to me twice. I've concluded that some of the posties are lazy sods. What a shame they tarnish the whole service, as there are some really good posties out there. The lazy sods should be sacked.

ok now, Perth, 10 months ago
Have found since moving to a apartment they never try and come up in the lift either they just leave the notice in the letter box and then you have to go to the damn post office to pick it up the next day.

Fizzled Chip, Perth, Australia, 10 months ago
It's not just Australia Post guilty of this behavior. Several times I have been at home all day with a fully functioning doorbell and extremely alert dog, only to find one of these damn cards in my mail box. Inference from postal and/or courier company when I telephone to complain? General disbelief and inferred aspersions that Im lying. At last proof!

DeeBeeEm, Brisbane, Australia, 10 months ago
Happened to me in Brisbane. Sat in all day waiting for an important parcel on a Friday only to later find a postcard saying we weren't in and to pick up at the post office on MONDAY. BIG help.

Catherine, Australia, Australia, 10 months ago
This happens ALL the time. In addition, parcels are left in gardens, after which the irrigation system comes on damages the contents. Parcels are also thrown onto high verandahs from way below, hitting doors or pot plants. Complaints to Australia Post go nowhere. No wonder they are losing huge amounts of money. But, as long as the CEO is being paid well, that is all that matters, I guess.

Leo the lion, Sydney, Australia, 10 months ago
This happens to me all the time. Aus post should have to refund the postage to the receiver if they have to pick it up from a PO.

Nic Crovaix, somewhere, Australia, 10 months ago
Their new motto is "We deliver?"

Snowdog88, Itscoldhere, Antarctica, 10 months ago
"We deliver notes, not parcels" or "We fail to delver".

Snowdog88, Itscoldhere, Antarctica, 10 months ago
It appears to be common practice ... they do not deliver parcels; they deliver "Sorry, you're not home ... collect parcel yourself from the post office" notes ... Bah !!

Snowdog88, Itscoldhere, Antarctica, 10 months ago
Sorry for my repeat posts ... stuck key. But it is probably the number of times that they failed to deliver my parcels, and i had to collect my parcels (some huge and heavy) from the post office.

JustMe2, Canberra, Australia, 10 months ago
Unfortunately, my experience is that this is the norm for Aus Post deliveries. I've even found a parcel at the post office 2 weeks after the 'attempted delivery date'. I hadn't even received a card to say delivery had been attempted (and someone had been home all day).

Snowdog88, Itscoldhere, Antarctica, 10 months ago
It seems to be the norm everywhere ... they do not deliver parcels; they deliver "sorry, you're not home ... get it yourself from the post office" notes ... Bah

Junius, Sunshine, United Kingdom, 10 months ago
This is common practice with signed for articles. They won't knock and wait for you to answer the door. Not bloody right when you have paid top dollar for the service.

Perplexed_, Around, Australia, 10 months ago
Nothing new here, paying top dollar for subpar service. I had one parcel that I sent in a post office posted back to me because they didnt know the difference between To and From on the parcel. Not to mention the To: was in large writing on the front of the parcel and they have the gaul to keep increasing postage charges!

Zrtw, London, United Kingdom, 10 months ago
Blame Aus post, not the delivery guy being paid 00000.7 to deliver it. They never attempt delivery, they drop a card. The parcel is not in the van. I thought this was common knowledge?

scubaman, Sydney but like Adelaide, Australia, 10 months ago
dont expect work shy aussies to understand

shedchick, Harden, Australia, 10 months ago
A friend watched as a postman didn't bother to knock, and who then forged my friend's signature on a valuable parcel delivery and then left it on the front doorstep. Australia Post just not interested in the complaint, postman "spoken to". Last time I checked, forgery was a criminal offense.

Fuchias, Sydney, Australia, 10 months ago
That's not right, it's just laziness. You should receive better service. Thankfully we have great postmen in the Turramurra area, both the regular mail postie and the parcel delivery postie. Our parcel delivery postie even calls out when he knocks. Our regular mail postie who was delivering for years and was fantastic has recently been replaced and so far the new one has been great.

scubaman, Sydney but like Adelaide, Australia, 10 months ago
laziness,you have no idea

Straightup, Sydney, Australia, 10 months ago
Doesn't this happen to everyone? I've lived at different addresses, I work overnight so always home during the day. I've just come to expect a card without any attempt at ringing the doorbell and sometimes I don't even get a card.

mypointofview01, Sydney, Australia, 10 months ago
This happened to me when I was at home after having my baby last year . I left the house with my premie once a day around 4pm to find the same notes. I never even left my apartment! It happened daily for weeks. I tried to complain but no one cared.

mailgal, sydney, Australia, 10 months ago
this is a common problem among indian couriers for australia post...they have been doing this for years in the westmead area also...complaints have been lodged with australia post who know it happens and still really do nothing about it...this is an ongoing problem for residents who have to go to westmead hospital post office to pick up packages and there is nowhere to park there so they have to walk there and then carry sometime heavy packages home...this has to be very hard on older people..i also have photos of the large packages i have had to walk home carrying because these lazy people can't do there jobs....you have a big problem australia post...

scubaman, Sydney but like Adelaide, Australia, 10 months ago

Sally, Sydney, 10 months ago
I frequently shop on line and this happens all the time. Even with the front door open and the car in the driveway we'll get a sorry you weren't home card. I've told the post office repeatedly but they just sort of shrug and tell me to ring up about it. It sort of defeats the point of shopping on line.

Robo611, Gold Coast, Australia, 10 months ago
If Australia Post is serious about staying in business it has to come to terms with the ingrained attitude of indifference that appears to be rite of passage with many of the mail carriers. Where I'm currently residing the Parcel delivery person has a great attitude and is a wonderful representative of Australia Post. But sadly this is not the case with the actual motorbike postman. His attitude is so bad that I have been forced to sort this out with his superiors. There just seems to be a lack of understanding that the public will vote in the end in order to get the best service available. Its so sad that such bad attitudes will eventually lead to the end of a once noble organization. No matter what your job, always try to be the very best person at it. It brings such personal satisfaction and prosperity to live this way.

PeePeePee, Somewhere In, Australia, 10 months ago
This happens to me all the time, almost weekly, for years. It's absolutely infuriating! The queue at my local post office goes out the door and past the shop next to it most of the time, then because the drivers can't be bothered knocking and handing me my parcels I have no choice but to spend an hour waiting in those queues with two young toddlers on a regular basis. Maybe if they did their jobs and actually earned their pay, the queues wouldn't be so long. What a joke of a company Australia Post is! They need some competition. Meanwhile the non Australian CEO pays himself a multimillion dollar bonus every year for a job poorly done!

William Abeleven, Gold Coast, Australia, 10 months ago
Maybe that's why Australia Post is going broke - it's all take and no give with them. Officeworks is doing parcel post now - I use them.

Ossie, Perth, Australia, 10 months ago
They did the same to me, watched him put card in mailbox, went to post office and wasen't he embarrassed when he walked in 10 minutes later with my (letter sized) parcel in his hand, the red faced staff didn't know where to look-neither did the postie who hooved it out the back as fast as his legs could carry him. The strangest thing is, it wouldv'e taken him longer to write out that card rather than just put my small parcel in the mailbox--waster

bluearcher, My place, Bahrain, 10 months ago
Oh this happens all the time and it is infuriating! How much more effort does it take to knock on a door.

Anjo, Sydney, Australia, 10 months ago
I also had that happen to me, several times, AND with the same post office. I work from home, so I was there to receive the package but got the 'nobody at home' slip. I suspect it goes on all over Sydney and it's totally infuriating.

Oscar Milde, Not entirely sure, Australia, 10 months ago
I work from home and get parcels all the time. I have lost count of the number of times they leave a card without knocking. I guess it means they finish faster and just dump all the parcels back at the post office. It has happened at the last three houses I have lived at. so it is a widespread practice. When you raise it with the post office, they say the work is done by contractors so they are not responsible.

Mirrorinyourface, Downumderland, Australia, 10 months ago
Typical postie bs. Happens to me all the time

Natty84, Sydney, Australia, 10 months ago
That's because that delivery driver is a contractor. Aus Post is taking on mainly contractors these days and they don't care about service. Over Christmas time its not uncommon for them to throw parcels back into return to sender pile when they near there shifts as they don't get over time
