Talk about snail mail!

http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-3698468/Australia-Post-parcel-takes-two-weeks-Sydney-Melbourne.html

How Australia Post takes two WEEKS to deliver a parcel between Sydney and Melbourne

Customer shared two-week commute of parcel from Sydney to Melbourne
Image was met with anger from several other Australia Post customers
Australia Post recently launched new letter and parcel delivery services
Services met with an outpouring of complaints from irate customers
Company announced an 84 per cent drop in half-year profits in February

At the rate Australia Post is going lately it could be time to invest in a carrier pigeon.
An irate customer has shared an image online of the painstakingly slow two-week commute of a parcel delivered by the national postal service from Sydney to Melbourne.
The image comes as Australia Post is flooded with complaints for their new automated parcel delivery service, introduced to combat huge losses of revenue.

A customer has shared an image of the painstakingly slow two-week commute of a parcel delivered by Australia Post from Sydney to Melbourne

The image, shared on Reddit, shows the tracking service of a parcel sent to 10 postal offices across NSW and Victoria over the course of two weeks.
The post was met with outrage on social media, with commmenters venting their anger about the company’s new service.
‘And they wonder why they aren't profiting, despite their cutbacks and increased postage costs,’ wrote one commenter.

Others shared their own experience with parcels doing laps around Australia before reaching the destination.
‘My Dad's got some stuff in the mail that was supposed to be delivered last Monday. We live in Canberra, the package is coming from Melbourne. It managed to find itself in Perth a few days ago. Was somewhere in QLD today.’
Others saw the lighter side of things by suggesting the customer was in fact getting good bang for their buck.

‘Can't say you're not getting your money's worth if it's doing a round tour of the country’.
A spokesperson from Australia Post told Daily Mail Australia they were trying to contact the customer to determine what happened to the parcel.
'Our parcel facilities process several hundred thousand parcels a day and in the context of the 12 million items that we deliver every day the vast majority arrive safely and on time.'
The automated parcel system, introduced in late 2014, has been slammed for sending packages in the wrong direction or failing to recognise established addresses.
The move contributed to a trebling of complaints for Australia Post since 2008, according to this year’s report from the the Industry Ombudsman.
In February Australia Post announced an 84 per cent drop in half-year profit to $16 million, spurring a number of drastic new models to stem the loss of revenue.

I sent a birthday card from Fairfield NSW to Telopea NSW and it took 2 weeks. I could have just driven there. I dropped my PO Box service as the staff at Fairfield were incredibly rude when I tried to redirect an elderly neighbours mail to a nursing home he moved to and they refused to do it even though he gave me written permission and the nursing home also confirmed in writing he was living there so I had to go to another post office and to top it off they stuffed it up and were redirecting mail in my name; it was a very hot day and the women kept saying I needed more evidence so I went back to nursing home twice thank goodness I had a car. I think she got great joy out of being so rude to me and she kept talking to a friend and just ignored me making me wait ages. The women at Fairfield post office said to be are you stupid when I gave her the paperwork and she said it wasn't good enough even though it was all in order. I avoid them now & only go to pick up missed deliveries.

I have an order of shock absorbers, coming from the UK, to Adelaide. The shock absorbers were purchased moments after two small, lightweight components, coming from Sydney. The shock absorbers took 4 days to travel 12,000Km, and they arrived in my hands at 5PM today. My two parcels from Sydney? Still there. Waiting.... Useless service...

As a recipient of EMS from China in Perth via Melbourne.....Yes they are,,,,however... as retired Australia post Mail Officer... allow me to inform you.... EMS is a priority system....My department was also..within Australia...Being Express Post....in my day...we did not sort by "post code..."i.e."...2021...6083...5211....We had to know the City and Metro, And...as a retired Mail officer... I can recall an Express "A4" sorted by myself at 0325...to QLD...being sent back to Perth, from BATC...AKA Brisbane Air Transit Centre @ 2350 the same day I sent this item..........WHY? The officer looked at the senders address....sent it back...All Mail Officers carry Pens...and Permanent markers.... So...a big RED "TO"...red cross of course...on the rear...I placed "From"....Issue here is....Australia Post sort by any means and ....ABSOLUTELY NO RESPECT FOR MY (Former) customer who paid my wages...

We sent a post card from Adelaide to Hobart and it took 10 business days. You can pay the extra 50c & to quote our local post office, it MAY get there in 4 business days. The key word being may. It has not been the best of changes at the post office and will probably become a self fulfilling prophecy as less people use their services.

I sent an urgent letter with the 'priority' sticker that costs an extra 50 cents and it took four days to get to another suburb in Perth. I should have hand delivered it. My business relies on Australia Post and the delays are impacting on my previous good reputation for prompt service.

ONE late parcel? What about all the mail, including parcels, they deliver in a timely manner? We simply take that for granted Every company has a glitch now and then and, no, I don't work for Australia Post or know anyone who does.

This happens all the time. I sent a parcel going to Sussex Inlet and it went via Tuggerah. Australia post is disgraceful the service is just not reliable anymore and the CEO should be sacked for being incompetent

I had a parcel which was sent from Newcastle and took 13 days to get to SW NSW.It went back and forth between Newcastle and Chullora 6 times. When I complained to auspost I was told the machine couldn't read the address and that it was caught in a loop. Finally when I got it,it was partially opened and items inside crushed.Address was quite clear to read. However I can buy something from England and receive it in less than 7 days.

Auspost is a joke, we pay through the nose for a bad service. Anyone would think there is only one flight a day in and out of each city. I can get a letter to the UK in 3 days, in many respects this is still a backward country

Other couriers are doing a better job these days. I have started to only shop at online stores that use a non-Auspost courier. Because Non-AP couriers don't let customers pick up the parcels from their offices. They actually ring your doorbell

I would like to know who it is that clears, or has access to, post boxes which are located outside of Post Offices. I send cards with enclosures to my family abroad. Most have not been received and this has happened frequently enough to raise my suspicions. I enter the PO, items are weighed and postage determined and I put it into the postal box located about 2 metres away from the front door. This particular PO is always filthy and the man a general disgrace. I have stopped giving my mail to him to put into his box and instead, posted separately in Australia Post's box. I have noted that if I post the mail from another PO, it gets to its destination. From this one, or the box outside, it does not. Very worrying.

I've had plenty of bad experiences unfortunately, it's deterred me completely from the whole online shopping experience as I know now that I can't trust auspost to deliver parcels. They take no legal responsibility with losing parcels all the time and just pass you off to the person/company you bought items from. My last experience it took me over a week of phone calls for someone to open an 'investigation' regarding my item as tracking stated it hadn't moved in a couple weeks and after a week all they said was that it was deemed lost in transit and any number of things could have happened to it so there was nothing more they could do even though they were responsible for losing it. It's ridiculous how they're allowed to get away with terrible service and lose other peoples property and have to face ZERO action or consequences

Parcels run a strange business. I posted a parcel late on Friday from SW Sydney and it was in Brisbane on the Monday. Only $7.45 Got a quote to send a box from Sydney to Perth and it was a whopping $65. The outlet told me to just bubble wrap the non-breakable content so that it wasn't a square and it came down to about $25! All simply because if it's an odd shape they calculate price based only on weight alone, not by cubing the dimensions. That was a huge difference. As they told me "avoid using boxes where you can".

Suzanne Vincent, just to clarify, my quote and subsequent postage were just regular parcels, not Express Post or overnight etc. The difference in price is simply that they charge based on either weight or cubing (whichever is higher). Posting lighter objects in a non cubed state means they charge based on weight only. I find it odd, as does my local post office, but that's how they do it.

I'm guessing he delivery driver just dropped a slip in the letter box and dumped the parcel at the post office too. Seems actually walking to the front door, knocking, waiting and delivering the parcel is actually too hard these days.

So true! Happened to my 78 yr old mother 2 weeks ago. She was in the loungeroom, near the front door at the time she got the slip in the letter box. No knock, no doorbell, no attempt to deliver. I collected her parcel (a walking stick, incidentally) that afternoon & made a formal complaint, for what little good it may do. Appalling service.
